How to prepare your apartment for a home massage

You need less than you think: two square metres, a warm room and somewhere to put your phone. A short checklist for first-time bookings.

First-time clients often apologise for their apartment before the therapist has even set the table down. There is no need — you need far less than you think. Our therapists set up in studios, penthouses, hotel rooms and everything in between. The only thing that changes is where the table goes.

Here is everything you actually need to do before a home massage in Dubai — and a few things people worry about that genuinely do not matter.

The essentials: what you actually need

The list is short:

  • Two square metres of clear floor space. A living room rug is fine. The space at the foot of a bed works. Next to the sofa works. The therapist needs enough room to walk around the table — roughly the footprint of a dining table for four.
  • A room you can get warm. Set your air conditioning to 22-24°C, not 19°C. When you are lying still and partially undressed, a cold room creates tension in exactly the muscles the therapist is trying to release. This is the single most common setup mistake in Dubai apartments.
  • Somewhere to put your phone, face down. Not on silent — face down, out of sight. The point is to remove the temptation to check it. Sixty minutes of massage with twenty phone glances is not sixty minutes of massage.

That is the entire list. We bring the table, fresh linen, towels, oils and music. You do not need to provide anything, tidy anything, or move furniture in advance — the therapist will ask before shifting so much as a chair.

Things that actually help (but are not required)

Tell your building security

In Marina towers with strict visitor policies, letting the concierge or security desk know that a visitor is expected saves 10-15 minutes at the lobby. Send us your tower name and apartment number when you book, and we will handle the rest — but a heads-up to reception from your end makes arrival seamless.

If you are in a villa or a building without security, this step is not needed. Just make sure the therapist can find your front door.

Shower before the session

This is not about hygiene — therapists are professionals who work with bodies all day. A warm shower before the massage loosens surface muscle tension and opens capillaries, which means the massage oils absorb better and the therapist can work more effectively from the first stroke. It also signals to your nervous system that the work day is over and relaxation is starting.

Dim the lights

You do not need candles or special lighting. Just switch off the overhead fluorescents and leave a side lamp or two on. In Dubai apartments, the default lighting is aggressive — bright, white, ceiling-mounted. That is fine for cooking dinner but it works against relaxation. If your apartment has smart lighting or dimmers, set them low.

Have water ready

Keep a glass or bottle of water within reach for after the session. Massage increases circulation and moves metabolic waste products through your system — staying hydrated helps your body process that. Room temperature is better than ice-cold.

What you do NOT need to worry about

Your apartment does not need to be spotless

The therapist is coming to give you a massage, not to judge your housekeeping. Dishes in the sink, laundry on the sofa, shoes by the door — none of this matters. Clear the floor space where the table will go and leave everything else exactly as it is.

You do not need special sheets or towels

We bring everything. Fresh linens, face cradle covers, towels, oils — all professional-grade and laundered between every client. Your bedsheets and bathroom towels stay where they are.

You do not need to move furniture

The therapist will assess the space and ask if it is okay to move a coffee table or chair if needed. Most Dubai living rooms already have enough space without moving anything. If your apartment is genuinely small — a studio, for example — the therapist might suggest setting up in the bedroom instead. They have done this hundreds of times.

Pets are fine

If your cat decides to sit on the massage table during setup, the therapist will work around it. If your dog is curious, that is fine too. The only issue is a pet that barks or demands attention continuously — if that sounds like yours, putting them in another room for the duration helps everyone relax.

What to wear

For most massage types (Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy, hot stone), you undress to your comfort level and lie under a sheet. The therapist uncovers only the area being worked on. Most people keep underwear on; some do not. Both are completely normal.

For Thai massage, you stay fully clothed in loose, comfortable clothing — think gym clothes or pyjamas. No oil is used and the work involves stretching, so fabric that moves with you is ideal.

Dubai-specific tips

AC settings matter more than you think

This comes up in almost every first booking. Dubai apartments are aggressively air-conditioned, and 19-20°C feels comfortable when you are dressed and moving around. Lying still on a table with bare skin, it feels cold. The therapist will ask you to adjust if needed, but setting it to 22-24°C before they arrive means the room is already at the right temperature when the session starts.

Building access in Dubai Marina

Most Marina towers require visitors to be registered at the security desk. When you book, include your tower name and apartment number in the WhatsApp message. If your building uses an app-based visitor system (several newer towers do), you may need to pre-register the therapist — we will send you their name in advance so you can set this up.

Parking is on us

The therapist handles their own parking. You do not need to arrange a spot, provide a parking permit, or worry about timed zones. This is part of the service.

After the massage

The therapist packs everything up and leaves your apartment exactly as they found it — table, linens, towels, everything goes. There is nothing to clean up, wash, or return. All you need to do is:

  • Drink a glass of water
  • Avoid intense exercise for a few hours
  • Enjoy the rest of your evening

If you booked a deep tissue session, you might feel some tenderness in the worked areas for 24-48 hours. That is normal — read our deep tissue vs Swedish guide for details on what to expect.

Ready to book?

Message us on WhatsApp with your location and preferred time. The therapist arrives in 20-30 minutes with everything needed. Sessions start from AED 400 for 60 minutes. We cover JBR, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and surrounding areas — open 24 hours, every day.

Two square metres, a warm room, and somewhere to put your phone. That is genuinely all it takes.
